Now that Voidspire Tactics has been out for 5 months, I’m happy to say it has made just enough for me to make another Tactics RPG! It’s going to be set in the same universe and use the same engine, but it won’t be a sequel. This isn’t the big official announcement; the name is still in the works. For now let’s call it More Tactics.
More Tactics will feature the same combat, class, and exploration system, but I have plans for lots of new stuff. I’ll go into extra detail later, but some of the new systems are:
- Control up to 6 units at a time
- Recruit & develop a large pool of characters to choose units from
- New weapon & armor enhancement system (finally a use for all those spare trigger stones!)
- Procedural zone generation for certain areas
- And of course, more of the old stuff (new classes, races, equipment, etc)
I’m also trying something different with the aesthetics. A lot of Voidspire Tactics’ color choices were rather bland and ‘realistic’, which resulted in a bunch of boring brown-on-brown areas.
For More Tactics, I’m trying out a limited but cohesive palette – specifically, an NES-inspired palette. That might sound like it’d be ugly and clunky, but it actually has forced me to make more interesting color choices throughout. (I am using a fair amount of cheater colors where the NES palette is lacking, though.)
Here’s an example:
The above is made with approximately 95% NES color. I may not stick with this aesthetic for games after More Tactics, but I think this will go a long way in making More Tactics look more unique (and look less like dirt).
